Warping fact from fiction and dream from history, Nyla follows her family’s history through time. From a diverse, radical community of ex-slaves in North Carolina’s Great Dismal Swamp, to the empty plains of West Tennessee during chaotic Reconstruction and later civil rights movement, to back home in the projects of modern New York City – she unearths the rotten roots and strange fruit corrupting America’s legacy.
